my piece of glory

This piece, done about two years ago, was the first piece I submitted to a SCBWI contest- and I got an honorable mention. At the time, I was so hesitant to begin doing illustrations again- this really gave me some confidence to work at it again. It had been years since I worked on drawing- I was busy making pottery, painting, getting my master's degree- it was the birth of my daughter that started pushing me to do illustration. She's very inspirational, albeit a terribly stubborn and whiny muse at the moment.

i've always loved this piece. Is it college? If so, you should give a step-by-step. Wait, that can be one of our blog topics....

I love this image too. And I'd love to see a step-by-step for this too, yes please! =) Have you shown this before somewhere, but as watercolor without the collage look? I think this one is smashing, well deserved honorable mention – and congrats to that!!

Great dimension, I can almost see this as animation...

I agree w/ Court, it looks like collage. I really like the multiple styles of dogs.

yup- its collage- and its what I really want my illustrations to look like- but I truly never feel as if I have enough time to sit down and work through this complicated of an illustration without having to do school work, wipe someone else's nose, or fall asleep- I use a lot of cut paper over water color- my favorite combo.
