Fantastic work! This piece is a great example of your best work. The perspective, attitude of the goat and little details like the red checkered tablecloth, mountains, troll outfit and waiter squirrel are great! The only thing I can think of is to tweak the expression on the troll a it, looks a little ambigious now, what is his reaction?
Its all you! Its great how your style transfers so well. You've turned the story into a woodsy sweet forest world. The color palatte is wonderful- the details are hilarious and your spirally goat has tons of personality. The only thing I have to add is maybe to change the color of the tablecloth- because its the only red in the picture, and because there is so much detail, my eye imediately notices the background first and then I see the goat and the troll afterwards. I really love this!!
Frizz, you're really cooking with gas here, that goat's attitude totally rocks! "You wanna piece of me?!!!"
The muted colors are terrific, and I wondered perhaps, if the table cloth and the troll's face were more of the same color. Or even his cheeks were red. I think you just need a dash of red somewhere in the left to balance the color composition. Maybe the goat-dude wears a red leather wrist cuff with silver studs or something.
I agree with Courtney about the troll's expression. maybe the shape of his mouth and eyse ned to be angled a bit. As Courtney said, what's his reaction?
Everything else works wonderfully, I can see the rest of the book in my mind, and if you ever feel the urge, challenge yourself and maybe create another sceneform the same story to see if you can keep continuity!
Oh, this whole piece just makes me smile! The goat stuffing his face, the goat being served...it all seems so whimsical! You did a fantastic job creating depth and perspective with the mountains and color choices. Your palette is calm, but not boring at all. The earth tones fit so well and make the troll seem that much more unnatural with his purple skin. Your line quality is fantastic-that goat's attitude is out there for all to see! And you did a great job drawing the eye from left to right with the lines of the bridge. (I do think a little red on the left side of the page would help with the balance. My eye is drawn to the right first.) I love this piece and I would hang it up in my home with pride! :) This is a WONDERFUL piece to add to your portfolio.
Wow, this piece is awesome! Your goat is SO GREAT. He means business. I like how you have him on two legs, getting ready to duke it out.
Your sense of composition and color are seamless. There is so much to look at on this page, I would have spent a long time with it as a kid..(err, and as an adult!) I love the other goats having a picnic in the distance, such a nice touch. The color choice for the table cloth worked well for me.
All around yay, yay, yay! I love to see your style shine through in such a beautiful and humorous way.
The only thing I might change, (I also mentioned my same little quirk on Leeza's piece) would be to possibly flip the whole illustration so the action is happening in the direction of the page turn. Totally a personal obsession of mine, I need help..I know, I know.. :)
Too funny, a boxing goat!! Very cool take on it! Super cool is that you have action in the background too – funny action moreover! And cute action. Goat eating, getting a flower from the dog (?) – hilarious!
Like your sophisticated color scheme a lot, and how you drew the lines so well (I'm sometimes TERRible with real paint when it has to be minute like that)
Love how you emphasized the action in the foreground, by exaggerating the distance and proportions. The whole image is quirky and not following real life perspective rules in detail, but it works! It's unified, it's silly, it's funny, great job!
