I abosolutely love the mood that you create in your work. Can I ask what you use to create the texture in the background? Is it just watercolor with salt?
Thanks for your kind words, glad you like this one. watercolor with salt! I've never thought of that! Actually, what I do for my paintings, is coat a stretched canvas with a dark acrylic color like raw umber. I then use a natural sponge to give it a little texture. When that coat is dry, I use a wide paint brush (four inches or so) and apply a really even, really watery coat of acrylic paint. In the case of this whale, I used a mix of watery black and white acyrlics. I usually give it one more coat of watery acrylics, and voila!! Messy background!
Johanna, I saw this piece on your site a few weeks ago and kept coming back to it time and time again., It's one of my faves of yours!
I used to play with the salt thing when I used watercolors years ago, but alas it never came out as beautiful as yours. No where near. In fact, mine looked down right terrible!!!
Johanna, this is wonderful, I'm at a loss to find the right word. Amazing mood, I want to see you on book shelves in book stores! I'm very impressed (and a little intimidated ;-))
