Trip, Trap, Trip, Trap

It may be a week late, but here it is! I think I only did 1/2 of the assignment, as we were to do a 2-page spread. I think Leezy better give us a lesson on measurements and stuff because I am simply an amateur with an inability to follow directions with numbers in them. Theoretically, the words would go in the bottom right...I just couldn't bring myself to fiddle with Photoshop 10 minutes before "What Not To Wear" comes on. Also my goat tush is cut off. Just so you know, the goat tush was really cute.

I think this piece has such a Gustav Klimt quaility about it with the orangey colors and swirls and gold! What a troll, too - wearing a suit and tie, that cracked me up. Great stuff!

The bridge leads your eye right through from top to bottom and back again which is cool. And I think the trip-trap type on the bridge adds an interesting texture to the piece.

I think the only thing which caught my attention were the facial expressions. The troll and the goat both look a little mellow. Troll looks a little sleepy and goat looks quite happy and smiley. I wondered if there could be a bit more fire in their eyes so to speak. Maybe their mouths are open or more active. This might show the action of dialogue better.

Lovely, fun illustration — well done!

Did the poor goat's tush get cut off by your scanner? I'm always having to fight that with my pieces...stupid scanner. :)
This is a great piece...it seems so surreal and a little trippy- in a good way!
That troll looks miserable, like he's smushed up under his bridge and maybe needs a little help. I think he could use a little bit more emotion. Is he mad at the goat? The goat looks like s/he's just skipping along and "oh, there a troll." instead of the confrontation that seem implied with the dialogue.
I really like the text on the bridge, it adds a great visual interest. I agree with Leeza that the lines of the bridge help to draw the eye from left to right.
I think this a fun illo, with lots to look at. :)

This is a great piece! I love the details, (the suit and tie, and the swirls on the goat) I'm sure I would have loved his tushy too!

Your color choice is awesome. The waves really stand out and the bright color of the tie keeps my eye swooping back up to the goat.

I might make the goat a bit crabbier. Unless he's the kind of goat that just holds in his emotions, as goats tend to do.

Great job! Yayyyyyy!

I love the layout and the perspective choices. Your eye really follows the bridge and catches everything else on it's way. The whole piece has a magical quality to it, very dreamy. I'm lovin' the trolls fingers.

Like everyone else seems to be saying I think the piece just needs to relate more to the story line by showing a bit more emotion in each charracter. That's something I need to work on as well.

I'm so glad you made it with all you've got going on! Yea for you!!

I love your colors, patterns and the trippy=ways of your style. I actually like the troll's cramped expression and almost buisness suit attire-like he's trapped in some horrible office cube. I do agree about changing the goat's expression a bit. If he a free spirit or cranky goat? I think th eonly thing I would add is to deepen some of your values. The background is a little distracting form the awesome orange of the goat, maybe go very dark?
Great piece, very cool!

I want to see the cute tush!! ;-) Halfway kidding of course. But I bet it added to the picture in balance, countering the ugly troll with detail, visual weight and cuteness.

You're repeating patterns, which gives the image balance and makes it harmonious. Cool idea to dress the troll with a patterned tie by the way! It's nice how you repeat the swirlie pattern even in the goat's nose, horns, troll's fingers etc.

The goat looks a little too happy for my taste – if it follows the text, it should be about to kick the troll to the other side of life, sort of.

For the fabric on the goat's back, I'd choose a different background color. It seems a little close to the orange – my eye picked it up as piece of the goat at first, or piece of the background? Maybe a stronger color? The brown looks like it could be paper color (i.e. empty)

As far as the colors go I think they're mostly balanced, but I think you could achieve more balance by repeating some of the green and blue water at the bottom of the image as well. If not the water, maybe some ground there.

I like the composition, the S shape you have the road follow. Nice idea!
