The Sketch Zone
My favorite part of my process is when I grab my pen, open my sketch book, plug into my ipod and doodle away. I may be rusty and take a bit to get started but then something shifts and I'm in the zone. My pen moves and I never know what will come out. It feels like I'm taken away. It's totally pure and totally me. I feel it's my connection to the well. After that I have no clue what I'm doing. Color, style, perspective, layout, paint...it's all a frustrating guess at the moment. That will change with more work.
I keep my sketchbooks in my purse. I have 3 (two for sketches and one for writing) and a pretty big purse. I think if they happened to be in the house and it was on fire, I'd go in after them. They are years of ideas.
Here's what came of my sketches and it's companion piece is here...

Cool sketches and finished piece Frizz — I love how you are addicted to notebooks and sketchbooks, I think I'm the same way!
There's something magical about the spontaneity of not knowing where your pencil or pen will go. It's such an organic process, that when a wonderful piece of work emerges at the other end of the doodle, you KNOW it's come from deep within. Gives me chills just thinking about it.
Frizz I love everything you posted here! The finished piece would look lovely on a children's room wall! Totally digging this!
I love this piece...and I love how your sketches look so much like your final piece. It retains the spontaneous feel and have such a great quality to them.
Digging on sketchbooks/notebooks too. I use those t.j.d books Leeza gave us and another travel journal each for different types of ideas! I wish there was someone who would invent fireproof sketchbooks, then we wouldn't have to worry about them. :)
